FORMER Spain international Daniel Guiza came off the bench to help Johor Darul Takzim salvage a 1-1 draw against treble champions Kelantan in tonight’s Super League biggie at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru.
It was a 40 metre freekick cracker in 63rd minute that gave national goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat no chance at all – one of the best goals seen so far in the M-League since the new season got underway two weeks ago.
Referee Suhaimi Mat Hassan awarded the freekick when Kelantan’s Shakir Shaari brought down Safee Sali with a strong challenge. It proved disastrous.
Kelantan took the lead in the 37th minute via Mohamad Norfarhan Muhammad. Norfarhan’s goal was not short of class. It was a solo effort which began just inside the Kelantan half.
As the Terengganu-born striker took off like a gazelle, Johor defenders simply failed to cut off the move and Norfarhan finished off with a 35 metre pile driver that gave Johor Darul Takzim goalkeeper Zamir Selamat no chance.
Zamir denied Kelantan a second goal in the 42nd minute when he read the danger and denied Norfarhan’s attempt from going in with his leg.
It turned out to be a night of saves by both goalkeepers. And in the dying minutes of the match, Zamir pulled of a single-handed save to tip over a beautifully executed shot from Norfarhan to allow Johor Darul Takzim a share of the spoils.
National striker Safee started the match as Johor Darul Takzim manage-cum-coach Fandi Ahmad started with Guiza on the bench while Italian midfielder Simone Del Nero took the field.
The former Lazio midfielder played his part well and as early as the 16th minute it was from his ball that Safee executed a bicycle kick that took a deflection off a Kelantan defender but Khairul showed good reflexes to tip the ball over.
