FORMER Spain international Daniel Guiza blasted five goals in Johor Darul Takzim’s 8-2 win over H2O Dream Team to win the H2O Challenge Cup at the ITE Centre in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore last night.
Guiza, who is on a one-year loan from La Liga side Getafe FC, scored all his five goals in the first-half before he was taken off for the second-half. Coached by former Singapore legend Fandi Ahmad, Johor Darul Takzim led 6-1 in the first-half.
This is the second time that Guiza scored five goals in a match. The first was during a friendly match against Malacca in Malacca in December during the team’s pre-season preparations.
Johor Darul Takzim’s other scorers against H2O were Ridwan Nawi, Azinee Taib and Mohd Hadin Azman.
Fandi, who is also the team manager, said he took out Guiza and several other first team players to give the reserves a chance to play and gain match experience for the long season.
“Guiza is a class above the rest. There is no doubt about that. I am glad that he has recovered from his left shoulder injury.as I was really worried that he will not be fit to play when the league resumes.
“The injury looked bad at first but he has made a quick recovery. I feared he suffered a fracture after the fall,” said Fandi.
The Spaniard injured himself when he took a heavy fall on his left shoulder after a collision with a Perak player in the FA Cup first round match at the Larkin Stadium on Jan 25. Johor Darul Takzim won 1-0.
He has scored three goals for Johor Darul Takzim in league matches so far – the equaliser against Kelantan (1-1), one against Armed Forces (2-2) and one against PKNS FC (3-1).
“I have thrown in most of the reserves during the friendly matches. This is a good exposure for them to be prepared.”
The Super League hopefuls have lined up a series of friendlies against Singapore teams during the three-week break in M-League. In the first friend played last Monday, Johor Darul Takzim outplayed Hougang 4-0.
The league resumes on Feb 15 and Johor Darul Takzim play T-Team at home on Feb 16, followed by another home match on Feb 19, which is against the Lions XII.
