THE Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have commended the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for taking action against players who were found guilty of match-fixing.

A total of 17 players from Kuala Lumpurā€™s 2013 Premier League side were fined RM5000 each by FAMā€™s disciplinary committee on MondayĀ for their involvement in match-fixing.

AFC general secretary Datoā€™ Alex Soosay said the confederation have zero-tolerance policy against match-manipulation and FAMā€™s efforts must be praised.

ā€œFAMā€™s action proves they are taking steps to keep the game clean. AFC have also set up a task force to help our member associations (MA) fight this menace and we will certainly help the FAM in their efforts,ā€ he said.

The AFC in close collaboration with FIFA, Interpol and the local authorities of AFCā€™s MAs are in the midst of organising several workshops, to educate and establish preventive measures to eradicate the negative elements in football.

ā€œAFC are committed to proper administration of justice but more importantly to keep up with the Asian game which is progressing well.

ā€œIn light of this, the steps taken by FAM are akin to the philosophy of AFC.ā€
