THE KL Saracens Rugby Club recently hosted its annual junior rugby tournament on 15 and 16 February 2014 at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort. The tournament, formerly known as BRC International Rugby 10s, was called the KLS Bintang International Rugby 10s 2014.

A member of the Saracens Global Network, the KL Saracens hosted 156 teams participating from all around Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Macau and Sri Lanka with more than 480 games played by over 2,300 players across 10 age groups from Under-7 to Under-18.

“We are very happy to welcome back old friends and to see new clubs and schools entered – all contributing to making this the biggest youth rugby tournament in Malaysia and perhaps even in Southeast Asia.

“This is a real testament to the growing popularity of rugby at the youth level in Malaysia and across Asia, which is highlighted by the entry of our Malaysian primary schools entering teams in the younger age groups,” says Ian Johns, President of KL Saracens.

“We have again been lucky to receive outstanding support from our commercial partners, food and beverage outlets, the media and volunteers and most importantly from the parents who devote so much time and effort to the club and our events – thanks to you all,” adds Ian.

For the second year in a row, both KL Saracens U16 and U18 teams won the cup by beating Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gombak and Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor, respectively.

Players, coaches and parents from all over Malaysia and other parts of the world look forward to returning next year to this tournament, which is acknowledged by many as the best junior rugby tournament in Southeast Asia.

The KL Saracens was formally established as Bintang Rugby Club (BRC) in 2007 with approximately 40 volunteer rugby enthusiasts. Known originally as Cobrats, BRC focused specifically on the development of youth rugby in the Klang Valley. The club has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, with over 400 currently registered active junior players.
