KELANTAN’s bid to win a first AFC Cup title got off to a bad start as The Red Warriors were on the losing end of a 5-3 thriller against Myanmar’s Yangon United today.

To compound the heavy defeat, Kelantan will also miss the services of Ahmad Shakir Ali in the next game after the striker was shown a red card.

2013 league champions Yangon took the lead as early as the eighth minute through Brazilian import Emerson Luiz, before striker Kyaw Ko Ko doubled their lead 20 minutes later.

Emerson then put the game to bed just before half-time as the host went into the break comfortable 3-0 winners.

Kelantan, who were missing the services of Mohammad Ghaddar and Mohamed Shawky through injuries, reduced the deficit two minutes into the second half through Wan Zaharulnizam Wan Zakaria, but Ko Ko replied almost immediately for Yangon to restore their three goal advantage.

Mohd Badhri Radzi was the next to find the net in this topsy turvy encounter, but once again Kelantan’s shortage of manpower bit them as Ko Ko completed his hat-trick a minute before the end.

Piya netted Kelantan’s third goal deep into stoppage time, but it was merely a consolation as the East-Coast outfit return home empty handed.
