2014 Denmark BWF World ChampionshipsMalaysian players got off to a great start on the first day of the World Championships at Ballerup Super Arena in Copenhagen on Monday.

World No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei led the charge with a 21-11, 21-12.win over South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun in his first round match.

His next opponent is Germany’s Domke Dieter, who sent India’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist P. Kashyap, out of the tournament with a 26-24, 13-21, 21-18 win in a match which lasted 67 minutes.

In the women’s singles Tee Jing Yi advanced to the second round with a 21-14, 21-19 win over New Zealand’s Michelle Chan Ky in 37 minutes. Jing Yi will take on Spain’s 9th seed Carolina Marin who drew a bye in the first round.

In the mixed doubles, Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing came through 21-14, 21-17 against Hong Kong’s Chan Yun Lung – Tse Ying Suet to earn a second round clash with fourth seeds husband and wife team of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock who had first round bye.

There was more cheer in the national camp as Vivian Hoo – Woon Khe Wei also won their opening you’re. The duo defeated Sarka Krizkova-Katerina Tomalova (Czch) 21-11, 21-12.

However, independent player Sannatasah Saniru was bundled out by England’s Sarah Walker who won 21-18, 19-21, 21-12.
