Omega European Masters 2014

The Omega European Masters will extend its partnership with the Asian Tour which will continue its involvement with the prestigious Swiss showpiece alongside The European Tour in 2015.

The Omega European Masters is the only event on European soil to be jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour since 2009 and rated as one of the most eagerly anticipated events annually on the Asian Tour schedule.

David Lipsky of the United States created history when he became the first player from the Asian Tour to win the 2014 Omega European Masters by defeating England’s Graeme Storm at the first play-off hole on Sunday.

Other players from the region’s premier Tour who have enjoyed their share of success in Switzerland included Korea’s Noh Seung-yul who finished fourth in the 2010 edition.

That result played a huge role in defining his season as Noh went on to become the youngest Order of Merit winner on the Asian Tour at the age of 19 years old.

Philippines’ Angelo Que enjoyed his best finish of tied-seventh in 2009 while three-time Order of Merit winner Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, who has already won twice in Europe, was placed ninth in 2013.

Yves Mittaz, Tournament Director of the Omega European Masters said: “We are pleased to have the Asian Tour as our sanctioning partner as it allows the fans here to watch the Asian Tour players in action. Their standards are improving every year and we’ve already witnessed it this week with David Lipsky winning the Omega European Masters.”

Asian Tour CEO Mike Kerr expressed his delight with the Tour’s continued association with the Omega European Masters and hailed the success of Lipsky.

“Golf is a global sport today and we are delighted the Omega European Masters will continue to be a part of the Asian Tour Schedule in 2015. This event provides our players the opportunity to take on the best players from The European Tour as well as showcase their talents to the galleries in this part of the world. I would like to congratulate David for his historic victory today for he has shown everyone the quality of players the Asian Tour has,” said Kerr.

The Omega European Masters is scheduled to be played at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club from July 23-26, 2015, a week after The Open Championship.
