* Old constitution rules out open contest

* Senior vice-president Nur Azmi’s dreams to move up shattered

Malaysia Hockey Federation’s long overdue Annual General Meeting (AGM),to be held in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 13, will proceed using the old constitution after newly appointed Sports Commissioner Datuk Zaiton Othman said MHC’s recently amended constitution was “null and void” as it did not have the required quorum.

Before the AGM is held, MHC will hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to discuss the Sports Commissioner’s decision and directive to hold the AGM using the old constitution.

MHC incumbent president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, the Crown Prince of Pahang, added that the nominations for the various posts will now come from the floor. Tengku Abdullah is not seeking re-election at the AGM and Selangor Hockey Association president Dato’ Sri Subahan Kamal was the sole nomination to take over the post.

However, senior vice-president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad’s hopes of moving up the ranks and challenge incumbent deputy president Puan Sri Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah have been dashed as under the old constitution the post is reserved for the women. Under the amended constitution it allows for an open contest which the women’s wing are dead against

The Crown Prince of Pahang is giving up his post with the MHC after he was unanimously elected as the new president of the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) following the demise of Sultan Azlan Shah in May 2014.

Subahan, a former lawmaker and now a well known businessman is expected to be re-nominated for the post. Raja Noora Ashikin is also expected to be nominated for the post.

Under the old constitution there are 12 vice-presidents and 16 committee members.
