Daren Liew does not fear Indonesia’s Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka – his first round opponent in the qualifying round in the Maybank Malaysian Open Super Series Premier at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday.
“I have beaten him in our last two meetings. And I am confident that it won’t stop at this….I am ready to face him again to get my journey in the Malaysian Open on track,” said Daren on Monday.
Daren goes into action after winning the Polish Open while Dionysius finished runners-up to Jan O Jorgensen in the German Open.
The 27-year-old Malaysian will have a second hurdle to clear in the qualifying round. He will be up against Russian Vladimir Ivanov or Malaysian privateer Mohd Arif Abdul Latif for a place in the main draw.
“I would not say I am super fit but I am in good shape. I am more than pleased with my overall game and the plus factor is the boost in confidence after winning the Polish Open.
“I am fully focused and have been training hard for the Malaysian Open.Ā There is inspiration to do well and stay afloat in Bukit Jalil,” said the Malaysian who beat Denmark’s Ernil Holst 21-15, 21-11 in the final in Poland.
The USD500,000 Maybank Malaysian Open has drawn the world’s top ranked players including world No 1 and reigning world and All-England champion Chen Long, five former world champion Lin Dan of China and wworld No 2 Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark and India’s rising star K. Srikanth who won back to back title – the Swiss Open and the India Open on Sunday.
