World No 2 Jan O Jorgensen is not losing any sleep over his defeat in the prestigious All England final and more recently in the Yonex Sunrise India Open Superseries in New Delhi last week. with the exit coming as early as the second round.

And the Dane, who last year became the first European to win the Indonesia Open, is also not setting any target in the USD500,000 Maybank Malaysia Open Super Series Premier which begins at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday with the qualifying rounds.

However, the pony-tailed Jorgensen, who is seeded second in the Malaysian Open behind World No 1 Chen Long of China, the man who stopped him in the All-England final 15-21, 21-17, 21-15 after a titanic 87 minute battle, was quick with his trademark smile and said: “My previous best in the Malaysia Open has been the semi-finals, losing to (Lee) Chong Wei each time.

“With Chong Wei not playing in this year’s Malaysia Open, I am looking at improving on my previous best outings in Kuala Lumpur. I am not setting any target here though but I hope to stay through the weekend. This means I am looking at the bigger picture.

“On my second round defeat in the India Open, it can happen to any of the top players in the world. There are a number of rising stars who are capable of winning against their better known opponents. And I won’t be surprised if this happens in the Malaysian Open.”

Jorgensen, who is ranked No 2 in the world, his highest ranking, will open his Malaysian campaign with a first round match against South Korean veteran Lee Hyun-il on Wednesday.

In the India Open, Jorgensen lost to India’s H. S. Prannoy who won 18-21, 21-14, 21-14.

“I am not losing any sleep over the defeats but it stops at that. The badminton season has just started and there are many more tournaments to play…and of course I have an eye on winning titles,” added the German Open champion this year, beating Indonesia’s Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka 21-12, 21-13 in the final.
