Canada men won their semi-final match at the Pan Am Games and will meet Argentina in the final

Qualification criteria means that Canada take their place in the line-up of teams going to Rio

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) have confirmed today that Canada men have qualified for the hockey event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Canada men beat Brazil in their semi-final match this morning, to confirm their place in the final of the Pan Am Games hockey event and ultimately their place in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Argentina men won the other semi-final in Toronto and have already qualified for Rio through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals.
With both teams in the final, qualification for Canada men is guaranteed either as winner of the Pan Am Games (Continental Champions) or the next highest ranked placed team from the Hockey World League Semi-Finals should the Continental Champion already have qualified.
Canada men join the eight teams already qualified for Rio 2016.  India as Asian Games Champions and Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Australia, Belgium and Great Britain through the Hockey World League Semi-Finals.
Brazil men also joined the line up on Wednesday when their place in the semi-final at the Pan Am Games satisfied the host nation participation criteria established by IOC and FIH.
The remaining three Olympic places (men) will not be finalised until after the Continental Championships which finish in October this year.  For more information on the qualifying process and to track who has qualified, click here for the men and here for the women.
