BWF World Championships Jakarta 2015; The most prestigious tournament in Badminton. Competing as individuals in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s doubles and Mixed doubles, success conveys the title of World Champion on the winner(s).World Championship bound Lee Chong Wei and Vivian Hoo head to the World Championships in Jakarta from Aug 10-16 with a winning touch after winning the mixed doubles title in the Perak Open which ended in Ipoh on Thursday.

Chong Wei-Vivian defeated Tan Chee Tean-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-11, 21-15 in 31 minutes – defeat which does not augur well for the losers – one of the four Malaysian pairs who will compete in the mixed doubles in the world meet.

The other three mixed doubles pairs who will play in Jakarta are former World No 3 and newly crowned Russian Open champions Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing and Wong Fai Yin-Chow Mei Kuan.

The 33-year-old Chong Wei did not play in the men’s singles in the Parak Open and has not been beaten in Malaysia for more than a decade. The former World No 1 is unseeded in the world meet and will face Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania in the first round.

Vivian Hoo will partner Woon Khe Wei in the women’s doubles in the world championships with hope that her win in the mixed doubles in Ipoh rub off in Jakarta after a spate of poor results lately.

National shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin won the men’s singles title with a 21-11, 21-19 win over Soong Joo Ven in 39 minutes. The men’s doubles title went to the Negri Sembilan-Selangor combination of Mohd Arif Abdul Latif-Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub who beat Darren Isaac Devadas-Vountus Indra Mawan (KL-Sab) 21-19, 21-19.

Top seed Tee Jing Yi used her experience to land the women’s singles title with a 21-16, 21-11 win over Malaysia’s rising star Goh Jin Wei.
