Watch this little dynamite named Goh Jin Wei who is only 15-years-old but showed maturity in her game to beat Scotland veteran Kirsty Gilmour 21-15, 21-18 in 44 in the USD15,000 Yonex Belgian International Challenge in Lueven on Saturday.

This is the first international title for the Singapore SEA Games bronze medallist who is hailed as Malaysia’s future badminton star.

It is certainly a huge, huge boost for Jin Wei’s badminton career. Her creditable performance in Belgium won her hundreds of fans for her grit and determination against her better known opponent.

Jin Wei gave a polished display against her much experienced and bigger sized opponent who who lost to Canada’s Michelle Li in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games gold medal match.

The Belgium win is another feather in her cap. The manner in which the Asian junior bronze medallist fought against the taller Gilmour was simply amazing.

Jin Wei pocketed USD1,500 for her efforts.

Malaysia failed to win a second title in Leuven when Joyce Choong Wai Chi-Yap Cheng Ween were beaten in the women’s doubles final. The Malaysians lost 18-21, 11-21 to the Danish pair of Maiken Fruergaard-Sara Thygensen in a 35 minute battle and went home USD1,100 richer.

The men’s singles title was an all-Denmark final with Anders Antonsen getting the better of Christian Lind Thomsen 21-18, 21-17 in 58 minutes.

Top seeds Manu Attri-B. Sumeeth Reddy of India took the men’s doubles title with a hard fought 22-20, 19-21, 22-20 over second seeds Adam Cwaline-Przemyslw Wacha of Poland in 65 minutes.
