# Selangor first team to advance to quarter-finals
# Favourites JDT roar to a 4-0 win over Armed Forces
# Terengganu hit Kedah 3-1
The haze-hit Malaysia Cup competition resumed with some hazy results that saw defending champions Pahang embarassed 4-1 by Premier League club side PKNS FC in a Group D match at Kuantan’s Darul Makmur Stadium on Saturday.
The night also saw 32-time champions Selangor become the first team to advance to the quarter-finals with a hard fought 2-1 win over Terengganu outfit T-Team at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Goals by Indonesian Andik Vermansyah and Hazwan Bakri in the 18th and 72nd minutes respectively against Mohd Zarulizwan for T-Team gave the Red Giants 10 points from five matches.
At the Selayang Stadium the match between Felda United and Kelantan ended in a 2-2 stalemate which left the Red Warriors anchored at the bottom of the table with five points – behind second-placed T-Team and Felda United who have each six points each with goal difference separating the two.
Felda led twice with goals by Brazilian ace Thiago Augusto in the 19th and 32nd minutes but each time Kelantan drew level. Fakri Saarani scored the first equaliser after 28 minutes and skipper Badhri Radzi the second after 43 minutes.
The story at Darul Makmur was one of disappointment for the Elephants – Pahang’s second successive defeat by a 4-1 margin after losing to Penang away in their last match.
PKNS coach E, Elavarasan, who had said before the competition that his team “will not just make up the numbers” in Group D after the Malaysia Cup draw was made, is still surprised that PKNS are at the top of the table with seven points after four matches. He had picked Pahang and Police as the favourites to advance.
Argentine hit-man Gabriel Guerra (17th), Timor Leste striker Pedro Henrique Oliveira (25th) and a goal each by Mohamad Nizam Bakar and Liberian Patrick Ronaldinho in the last 10 minutes gave PKNS one of their sweetest wins over a Malaysian football giant.
In another match in Group D Penang’s hopes of a top two finish took a dive when the Panthers lost 3-2 to Police. It the first win for Police in four matches. Police scored Mohamadou Sumaresh (two) and Ahmad Nizam Radzi while Penang got their through Lee Gil-hoon and Mohd Faisal Halim.
Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim were in smashing form at the Larkin Stadium with a thumping 4-0 win over Armed Forces on a day when they got news of their march into the AFC Cup final after FIFA banned Kuwait FA which ruled out Qadsia SC from the regional tournament.
The Southern Tigers rode on goals by S. Chanturu (4th), Safiq Rahim (24th), Luciano Figueroa (36th) and substitute Nazrin Nawi (70th) to keep their unbeaten run in the group and keep their place at the top with nine points after three matches.
Sarawak sneaked into second place in the group after a 1-0 win over Perak with J. Partiban scoring the winner 34th minute in a hotly contested at the Sarawak Stadium in Kuching. The match was played in an empty stadium.
Lions XII surged to the top in Group A with a 1-0 win over JDT II at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Shahdan Sulaiman netted the winner in the 49th minute. The win gave the Lions 10 points from five matches.
Leaders Kedah slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu with left them in second place with seven points. A brace from Canadian international Issey Nakajima (24th and 73rd) and one by Hasmizan Kamaruddin (76th) paved the way for Terengganu’s first win. Kedah replied through South Korean Bang Seung-hwan on 68 minutes.
