Big name Paulo Rangel was not able to do much for his new team JDT II as DRB-Hicom pulled off a major upset with an emphatic 3-1 win over the Johor outfit in their opening 100PLUS Premier League football competition at the Pasir Gudang Stadium on Friday.

In the north Northern Lions Perlis under coach Dollah Salleh roared to a thumping 6-1 win over Armed Forces in Kangar while Kuala Lumpur won 1-0 against PKNS FC at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca.

Malacca staged a remarkable performance at the Selayang Stadium with a 2-2 draw against Sime Darby FC and Negri Sembilan were held to a 1-1 draw by Kuantan FA at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.

Another shock result was at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam with UiTM FC coming off tops against Sabah with a 4-1 win.

The show was at the Pasir Gudang Stadium where JDT II were expected to walk away with full points but instead DRB-Hicom stole the limelight in a match where Rangel was supposed to be the trumpcard.

Instead the visitors took an early lead on 12 minutes through Nazri Kamal and never looked back even when Singapore international Shahril Ishak equalised for the homesters with a delightful header in the 27th minute.

Ivan Babic regained the lead for DRB-Hicom after 33 minutes and KOrea Kim Jin-ryong hammered the final nail into the coffin with third goal in the 78th minute.

UiTM FC rode on a hattrick by Uzbek hitman Pavel Purishkin with goals in the 32nd, 74th and 89th minutes for a comfortable win in an afternoon match played at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.

Brazilian Eliel da Cruz Guardiano scored the other for UiTM FC in the 80th minute while Sabah’s consolation goal came from Prince Nnake after 50 minutes.

Negri Sembilan and Kuantan FA saw red at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Seremban in their 1-1 draw.

Zairi Hafizi opened scoring for Negri on 33 minutes before Dao Bakary converted a penalty in the 53rd minute. Both teams were a man short on the field on the hour mark when Negri’s Hariri Shafii and Kuantan’s Hazwan Fakhrullah were red carded for fighting.

At the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca city boys Kuala Lumpur collected all three points with a 1-0 win over PKNS FC, who narrowly missed promotion to the Super League last season.

Anselmo Da Salva netted the winner in the 65th minute.

At Stadium Utama in Kangar the night belonged to the Northern Lions – leaving coach Dollah all smiles – after seeing his team register the big win over Armed Forces. Perlis did the damage in the first half.

Nigerian Obinna Nwaneri, no newcomer to the M-League, opened the floodgates with the opening goal as early as the third minute. With the adrenaline flowing it was 2-0 for Perlis after nine minutes when Mohd Alafi Mahmud scored.

Ten minutes later New Zealander Vincent Kayne scored his first and completed his brace in the 36th minute after Afif Amiruddin fourth on 30 minutes. Sadam Hashim added his name to the scoresheet with the final goal just before the halftime whistle. Mohd Zainon Yusof scored the consolation goal for the visitors.
