Selangor Premier League club PKNS FC came back from the brink of defeat and just about did enough in the last six minutes for a 2-1 win over DRB-Hicom to complete their first round fixtures on a winning note and a place in the Malaysia Cup.

The win at the Proton Stadium in Tanjung Malim on Tuesday gave the FA Cup runners-up 20 points and fifth place in the 100PLUS Premier League after 11 matches.

This year’s Malaysia Cup will see the top 11 teams in the elite Super League and the top five teams from the Premier League playing in the prestigious tournament.

The other teams in the running for the fifth place were DRB-Hicom and Kuantan FA. While PKNS denied DRB-Hicom in Tanjung Malim in an afternoon match JDT II hammered Kuantan 4-1 at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.

Malacca United were back on top of the Premier League on goal difference after a 6-0 rout of Armed Forces at the Temerloh Stadium with 24 points – the same as Kuala Lumpur who won 2-1 against Sime Darby at the Selayang Stadium.

DRB-Hicom took the lead after 22 minutes through Ivan Babic. However, PKNS, who lost the FA Cup final 2-1 to Super League’s JDT on Saturday, came back strongly with Shakir Ali getting the equaliser on 84 minutes. A penalty goal by Argentine striker Gabriel Guerra in the 87th minute swung the match PKNS way and a place in the Malaysia Cup.

The other teams in the Malaysia Cup from the Premier league are Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and JDT II.

Malacca ran riot in Temerloh on a night when skipper Ilija Spasojevic stole the show with four goals. The Montenegro striker was on target in the 20th, 37th, 44th and 90th minutes.

Swedish midfielder Labinof Harbuzi opened the floodgates with a second minute goal before G. Puaneswaran got the second on 17 minutes.

At the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam a last minute glancing header by Afiq Azmi gave Negri Sembilan a lucky 1-0 win over UiTM FC in another afternoon match.

Former Terengganu striker Paulo Rangel hit a brace for JDT II against Kuantan FA. The Argentine hitman scored from the penalty spot in the 12th minute for his first goal and added his second in the 24th minute.

Rashid Che Halim (43rd) and Zaquan Adha Abdul Radzak (52nd) were the other scorers for the visitors while Sradjan Vidakovic got the consolation goal for Kuantan in the 47th minute.

At the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu the homesters rode on Maxsius Musa’s 38th minute goal for a 1-0 win over Perlis.

Kuala Lumpur kept the pace at the top of the league with full points off Sime Darby at the Selayang Stadium. Modibo Konte (50th) and Fahrul Razi (70th) scored for the City Boys while former Penang player Lee Gil-hoon (57th) netted for Sime Darby.
