Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa visited the new President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) Lt General Edy Rahmayadi in Jakarta and stressed the importance of the country to football in Asia.
Shaikh Salman brought a message of support and unity to the PSSI President and said that Indonesia is a ‘power house of Asian football and an important member of the AFC.’
The AFC President added: “The potential for football is incredible here in Indonesia and needs to be realised. Now we have a new leadership at the PSSI and I am convinced that under the vision and guidance of President Lt Gen Edy Rahmayadi, football will grow here and regain its former glory.”
The PSSI President thanked Shaikh Salman for making the trip to Jakarta and for the support that has been shown by the AFC in recent months. He added: “We are new and we need the AFC’s support. I assure you that Indonesian football will flourish in the days to come with the AFC’s support.
“We want to develop Indonesian football and will work closely with the AFC to attain our goals. I want to thank the AFC President for the great support we are receiving in this journey for Indonesian football.”
A high level delegation, led by AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John and consisting many of the AFC’s directors, made the trip to Indonesia recently to pledge their determination, under the banner of One Asia, One Goal, to offer PSSI advice and support as they look to rebuild the game in the country.
