Vietnam head coach Nguyen Huu Thang has called up seven players from the Under-20 team that played at the recent FIFA World Cup U20 in South Korea.

With a match against Jordan in the qualifying round of the AFC Asian Cup 2019 coming up in exactly ten days, Huu Thang’s decision will inject new blood into the squad that had held Afghanistan to a 1-1 draw in their game.

“The reason why he has chosen many players from the U20 team was also due to the preparation for the SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia in August,” said Tran Quoc Tuan, the deputy chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

Amon those selected from the U20 team were goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, defenders Ho Tan Tai, Doan Van Hau and striker Ha Duc Chinh, where they will join the squad of 28 players, including midfielders Nguyen Tuan Anh and Nguyen Phong Hong Duy of Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL), strikers Nguyen Cong Phuong of HAGL and Nguyen Van Quyet of Hanoi.

The game against Jordan will be played on 13 June at the at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
