Yadanarbon brought league leaders Yangon United back to reality when they blasted the latter 3-0 in the latest tie of the Myanmar National League (MNL) 2017.

The loss snapped Yangon’s unbeaten 14-game running streak where it also narrowed the gap between the top three teams in the standings.

Yangon still lead the table with 36 points from 15 matches played while Shan United remained on second with just a point behind from the same number of games.

Yadanarbon are third with 34 points – also from 15 matches.

In the match that was played at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium, striker Aung Thu scored the opener after 25 minutes following a cross from Si Thu Aung as they then added further goals from Myo Ko Tun in the 64th minute and then off substitute striker Patrick Asare seven minutes later.

“Our team played to my game plan. I’m satisfied with the way we contained Yangon United. Our boys were able to deal with the long balls the opposition employed to pierce our defense. If we had used our chances better, we could have scored more goals. This victory is dedicated to our supporters as well,” said Yadanarbon coach Rene Desaevere.

Elsewhere, Shan United beat Southern Myanmar 2-0 while Magwe FC thrashed Zwekapin United 5-0.

Nay Pyi Taw edged struggling GFA 1-0 as Rakhine United beat Chin United 1-0 and Ayeyawady United battled to a 2-2 draw against Hantharwady.
