It has been a real hectic time for Youth and Sports Minister YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin but he is taking all in his stride to ensure the smooth running of the 29th Sea Games.

Thursday was a good example for YB Khairy who shuttled between the archery venue at the Synthetic Turf Field at National Sports Centre and the National Stadium, both in Bukit Jalil.

At the archery venue YB Khairy, who is also a competitor in the biennial games and will take part in equestrian polo, watched the Malaysian women archers strike gold in the team compound and later presented the medals to the winners.

He next rushed to the National Stadium’s VIP lounge for a Press Conference on the opening ceremony of Kuala Lumpur 2017 Sea Games and the Sea Games Carnival 2017 held in conjunction with the biennial games.

YB Khairy repeatedly extended his apologies for being late but stayed long enough to explain details on Saturday’s opening ceremony which will be “full of surprises” for the people of Malaysia.

Among the “secrets” revealed by YB Khairy: “The flags of the participating countries in this year’s SEA Games will be brought in by Malaysia’s past sporting legends who are household names in the country.”

“The opening ceremony will be very punchy with high end technology and very entertaining that will showcase Malaysia’s progress. Some 6,000 people will be involved in the showcase which will include the past, present and future.

“It is not a sing along centerpiece but a performance that will showcase the diversity of the country reflecting the past, present and the future. The finale will be lighting the torch. “

YB Khairy drove home a strong message that those making their way to the refurbished and upgraded National Stadium to attend the ceremony which is expected to be the “biggest show” in the region this year, to be two hours early.

“The pre-show starts at 6pm but I urge those coming for the opening ceremony to come from 4pm when the gates are opened to the public,” said YB Khairy.

Soon after the press conference at the Nasional Stadium YB Khairy made his way to the archery venue again before hitting the road to keep his next appointment which was at KLCC. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
