HOPES were high for Jupha Somnet to deliver the gold medal in the women’s mass start race but in the end, the Malaysian rider had to settle for silver in the 101km race held in Nilai on Wednesday (23 Aug).
Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi won the gold ahead of other 13 riders in a time of 3:14.16s. Jupha, 24, came in second while Indonesia’s Priatna Ayustina Delia finished third.
It was Jupha’s second silver in the Games after winning the first in the women’s criterium race on Monday (21 Aug).
