Malaysia stormed into the men’s team badminton semi-finals with an easy 3-0 whitewash of Laos in the quarter-finals at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday.

Soong Joo Ven clinched the winning point for Malaysia with a 21-10, 21-9 win over Xaysomphone Vongpachith in the second singles in 26 minutes.

Earlier Malaysia took a 1-0 lead through first singles with Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin sweeping past Vixunnalath Phichith 21-17, 21-10 before the country’s number two doubles pair Ong Yeo Sin-Teo Ee Yi made it 2-0.

The Malaysians defeated Namboun Luangamath-Sengrthit Sypaseuth 21-9, 21-5 in 19 minutes.

In the semi-final on Wednesday the Malaysians will meet Singapore – 3-1 winners over Myanmar. In the other semi-final Indonesia will be up against Thailand.

Thailand defeated Vietnam 3-0.
