THE Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 has assured a glittering and extravaganza opening ceremony for the 29th edition of the biennial Games on Aug 19 at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
MASOC Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zolkples Embong, said: “Our preparation for the opening ceremony is well on track, including all seating arrangements. In terms of performance, the volunteers are training daily to ensure everything is done well without any glitch.”
He added, the next 14 days will be crucial in ensuring a smooth trial run by the performers and volunteers before a final rehearsal is held. “If there are any problems, it will give MASOC sufficient time in rectifying the situation,” he said.
“On the 19 August, we will witness one of the best ever opening ceremony of the Games,” said Dato’ Sri Zolkples after witnessing the signing of a sponsorship deal between Sony Malaysia Sdn Bhd and MASOC in Putrajaya today.
He added that to date, more than 70 percent of tickets for the opening ceremony at the National Stadium have been sold.
“We are expecting huge turnout for the opening ceremony at the National Stadium which can accommodate up to 80,000 peopleâŚ. I wish to advise members of the public to purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be purchase on line,” he said.
He stressed that tickets for football matches are selling like hot cakes, especially those that involved the Malaysian team at the Shah Alam Stadium. Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s national Under-22 squad is drawn in the same group as Brunei, Singapore, Myanmar and Laos.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk M. Saravanan, has advised those intending to watch the opening ceremony and competitions at the various venues around the ?KL Sports City in Bukit Jalil to use public transport.
“There are a total of 18,000 parking bays at the various LRT stations along the line leading to the Bukit Jalil . Another option is to park your vehicles at the Race Course Club which has 3,000 parking bays and ride on the shuttle service buses provided.
“The police will bar vehicles without valid SEA Games parking sticker?s? to enter into the National Stadium vicinity,” he added.
