9th ASEAN Para Games 2017 - RIMAU MaskotKwanchai Pimkorn scored 20 points and Pongsakorn Sripirom added 19 as Thailand stormed to 70-56 win over Malaysia for the basketball 5-on-5 gold medal at the Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre on Friday (Sept 22).

It was Thailand’s sixth gold in the 5-on-5 event since 2005 and their second basketball gold in the 9th ASEAN Para Games here in Kuala Lumpur.

The Thais also captured the 3-on-3 gold for the sixth time on Thursday with a 12-5 victory over the Malaysians.

Thailand took a 23-9 lead in the first quarter, extended it to 38-22 although it was the Malaysians who dominated the proceedings by winning 16-14 the second quarter. They then stretched the score line to 52-38 in the third set before going on to win 70-56 at the final horn.

Philippines won the 5-on-5 bronze by defeating Myanmar 49-41. It was the second bronze medal for the Filipinos in basketball who had edged Laos 12- in the 3-on-3 event.
