# Malaysia thrash top seeds Korea 3-0 in semifinals

# Defending champions China swarm Japan 3-1

Malaysia continued their fine run in the mixed team event in the World Junior Championships in Yogjakarta, Indonesia to reach the final against defending champions China.

In the semi-finals played on Friday the Malaysians outgunned top seeds South Korea 3-0 in a one-sided encounter while the mighty Chinese once again dropped a match before snatching a 3-1 win over Japan.

For Malaysia it was roaring start when they grabbed the first point with ease through the mixed doubles pair of Ng Eng Cheong-Tan Sueh Jeou who were on court for only 21 minutes in their 21-9, 21-12 win over Jeong Min-Kim Seong-jae.

Asian junior Under-19 champion Leong Jun Hao made it 2-0 for Malaysia with a 21-6, 21-19 win over Ki-Dong-ju in 27 minutes and Sea Games gold medallist Goh Jin Wei sealed the winning point in the women’s singles.

Jin Wei, the 2015 world junior champion had a longer stay on the court – 36 minutes – but did enough to put Malaysia in the final with a 21-16, 21-19 win over An Se-young.

The Chinese won the first point in the mixed doubles through Fan Qiuyue-Li Wenmei who registered a 21-13, 21-13 win over Takuma Obayashi-Natsu Saito.

However, the Japanese jolted China to make it 1-1 when Kodai Naraoka shocked Asian junior Under-19 silver medallist Bai Yupeng in straight games 21-13, 21-8 in 36 minutes.

But that was all Japan could do as China made it 2-1 in the mixed doubles when Fan Qiuyue-Wang Chang triumphed 21-15, 21-12 over Mahiro Kaneko-Yunosuke Kubola.

China’s winning point was secured by Han Yee in the women’s singles. Han Yee eased to a 21-11, 21-12 win against Moto Hayashi in 33 minutes.
