Asian Junior Under-19 champion Leong Jun Hao kept Malaysia’s flag flying in the men’s singles when he marched into the quarter-finals in the World Junior Championships for the Eye Level Cup in Yogjakarta, Indonesia on Thursday..
 
In the fifth round Jun Hao beat Leo Rossi of France 21-16, 21-17 and faces another French hurdle for a place in the last. His last eight opponent is Christo Popov who upset Thai fifth seed Ruttanapak Oupthong in straight games 21-16, 21-17.
 
India’s second seed Lakshya Sen is also through to the last eight with an effortless 12 and 12 victory over Indonesia’s Muhammad Rehan Diaz. Lakshya will play sixth seed Kodai Maraoka in the quarter-finals.
 
Malaysia’s 2015 world junior champion Goh Jin Wei stayed on track to regain the women’s singles crown after notching a 21-15, 21-19 victory over Indonesia’s Choirunnisa Choirunnisa. Jin Wei, 17 next faces Thailand’s No 10 seed Chananchida Juchroen.
 
Indonesia’s hope and third seed Gregoria Mariska is also through to the last eight. In the fifth round Mariska beat China’s Wang Zhiyi 21-18, 19-21, 21-12 after a 67 minute battle.
 
Malaysia also stayed alive in the mixed doubles with Ng Eng Cheong-Toh Ee Wei winning 21-17, 21-18 against Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong-Chasinee Korepap. The Malaysians face Indonesians Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in the last eight.
