High riding Philippines suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Timor Leste this week with Garcia Da Silva’s goal late goal handing the Azkals their second loss at the CTFA International Tournament.

After falling to a 3-0 loss to hosts Chinese Taipei earlier, the Philippines were hoping to bounce back and end the meet on a high.

But with numerous chances gone a begging, Da Silva came running in down the right flank and into the byline before unleashing a wicked angled shot that came off the upright and into goal.

“We understand the need to send a team to the tournament. Chinese Taipei is one of the few countries that supported and gave exposure to the Philippine Azkals when nobody then gave us a chance. But they should have consulted the national management for the call ups,” said Philippines team Dan Palami.

The Philippines had started the tournament with a 3-1 win over neighbour Laos off goals from Phil Younghusband, Angel Guirado, and Kintaro Miyagi.

But they would soon find Chinese Taipei a whole different proposition with the hosts scoring through a Mao Li double and then another from Ting-Yang Chen.
