Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been rested for the Badminton Asia Team Championships men’s semifinal tie against China later this evening. Taking over as the first singles will be Lee Zii Jia, who has has been impressive in the matches he has played thus far.

Irrespective of the outcome of today’s game, Malaysia have already booked their place in the Thomas Cup Finals in Bangkok in May this year. Malaysia secured their slot following a smashing 3-0 victory over Hong Kong in the quarterfinals yesterday.

In the match line-up released here today, Zii Jia will face China’s Shi Yuqi in the opening game. Doubles aces and Olympic silver medallists, Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong will face He Jiting-Tan Qiang in the second tie.

Soong Joo Ven comes on next and will battle Qiao Bin before Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi take on Han Chengkai-Zhou Haodong. The fifth tie will see Iskandar Zulkarnain battling Zhao Junpeng. 

In the other semifinals between South Korea and Indonesia, rising singles star Jonatan Christie will take on season singles shuttler, Son Wan Ho.
