National singles coach Datuk Misbun Sidek believes his boys are on the right track forthe Thomas Cup Finals in Bangkok, Thailand this May.

Malaysia have qualified on merit for the Thomas Cup after a convincing 3-0 victory over Hong Kong in the quarter-finals to advance to the final four of the E-Plus Badminton Asia Team Championships tomorrow.

“Our mission was to form a team with good achievements and what I’ve seen so far is a batch of players who are willing to fight for the country,” said Misbun.

“Before, they were all overly cautious. But as the days progress, we are seeing the team grow in confidence in terms of strategy, team work and their spirit to win.

“Players have to be decisive to achieve results. The plan right now is to challenge the youth to perform better and if they do perform, the results will follow.

“They have responded well in training and also when they play competitively. That’s why the results are showing. I hope they can maintain their performance in the next round (against China),” explained Misbun. – BY ALVIN OH
