The Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) will hold its 3rd event of the season at Laguna Golf Phuket in Thailand from April 17-20, 2018.

The JGTA Phuket Junior Open will be a three-day, 54-hole stroke-play event featuring 78 of the top-ranked junior golfers in Asia. The field is expected to include AJGA champions and multiple players who have already signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play golf at an American University.

The JGTA is the sanctioning body in Asia for American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Performance Based Entry (PBE) Status, providing junior golfers the opportunity to build their AJGA PBE Status by competing in JGTA tournaments held in Asia.

This year marks the JGTA’s historic first season, and the first time ever that junior golfers in Asia can build AJGA PBE Status regionally, by competing in JGTA events. The JGTA has held two events thus far in the 2017-2018 season, in Bintan, Indonesia and Miaoli, Taiwan.

The JGTA Phuket Junior Open represents a pivotal moment for players’ rankings in the JGTA Junior Order of Merit – the source for AJGA PBE Status in Asia. A player’s rank in the JGTA Junior Order of Merit at the end of the season (May) will dictate their AJGA PBE Status earnings, and with a tight race thus far many players find themselves in a position to move up or down significantly pending the results of the JGTA Phuket Junior Open.

The award-winning Laguna Golf Phuket will host the event, which is the JGTA’s first stop in the Kingdom of Thailand. A holiday paradise of luxury villas, residential properties, and deluxe hotels, such as the Angsana Laguna Phuket – the event’s official accommodations – Laguna Golf Phuket spans 1,000 acres of tropical parkland along a three-kilometer stretch of pristine beach at Bang Tao Bay on Phuket’s West coast.

“We are delighted to welcome the Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) to Laguna Phuket, which will be the first JGTA tournament in Thailand. Laguna Golf Phuket strongly supports junior golf with our specialist junior memberships and several tournaments each year. The golf course will be setup to challenge every part of the players game, with strong emphasis placed on course management and shot making skills. Our wonderful Angsana Laguna Phuket will be the perfect venue to accommodate the group, with a huge choice of restaurants, facilities and activities for the young players to enjoy off the golf course.” -Paul Wilson, AVP, Group Golf Director-Laguna Golf
