The Sabah junior tennis players and their parents met with Tawfiq at his office two years ago

The Sabah Tennis Association (STA) and their district affiliates are in mourning this week, following the passing of Sabah’s Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan.

The 56-year-old Tawfiq breathed his last just before midnight on Wednesday at the Prince Court Hospital in Kuala Lumpur where he was undergoing treatment for colon cancer.

Tawfiq was the Tawau UMNO division chief and Apas assemblyman.

“Tawfiq always had a special place in his heart for the juniors. We in STA always brought the juniors and their parents to meet him for encouragement,” said STA president Johnson Koh.

“Now that we have lost a good hard working minister, STA have lost a true friend. Tawfiq played a big role in taking Sabah tennis to new heights.”
