THE stage is all set for Malaysian drivers to make impact and shine in the grand finale of the Formula 4 of the South East Asia Championship (F4 SEA) which takes place over three days at the Sepang International Circuit, starting tomorrow.

Leading Malaysian contender, Nazim Azman, currently fourth in the overall standing, is determined to be on the podium as he set his sights to end the season on a high note.

Nazim, 17, will be among the favourites when the six-race finale event takes place from 13 to 16 April, along with leading contenders Daniel Cao of China, Thailand’s Kane Shepherd and Ugo de Wilde of Belgium.

Other local drivers expected to strut their stuff in front of the home crowd include up and coming professionals Isyraf Danish, Arsh Johanny and Armand Johanny.

Nazim made his mark following his F4 SEA Championship opening round victory earlier in the season, the first Malaysian to win an F4 support race at last year’s Malaysian GP in Sepang.

“I’m really excited and looking for this weekend’s action in Sepang. It’s definitely going to be intense but I’m aiming for as many wins as I can. It’s going to be really hard for me in the overall challenge as I missed two races prior to this,” said the Kuala Lumpur lad who carved his best achievement in Event 3 in Buriram in January, notching four podium victories.

Currently plying his trade in Italy, Nazim will be among the top Malaysian drivers to watch as he trails 35 points behind de Wilde.

After four events, China’s Daniel Cao leads the overall chart with 438 points, ahead of rival Kane Shepherd of Thailand (319) followed by de Wilde.

The F4 SEA is a 5-event Championship held in Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines, with a 6-race weekend format. Just as in European and worldwide FIA F4 Championships, the Formula 4 SEA Champion wins 12 FIA Super Licence points.

The 2017-2018 FA SEA Championship calendar kicked off last year in Sepang (Sept 29), followed by Event 2 in Philippines’ Clark International from Oct 20-22. Thailand’s Buriram International Circuit hosted Event 3 from January 12-14 before heading for Sepang once again for the fourth event from Feb 2 to 4.

The finale starts off tomorrow (Friday) April 13 with a morning free practice session followed by a 30-minute qualifying. Race 1 will be held later in the afternoon while Race 2 and Race 3 are slated on Saturday (April 14). The remaining three races (Race 4, 5, 6) will be held on Sunday.
