Two first-half goals were enough for Bangkok United to not only beat Suphanburi 2-1 in the latest Thai League One game but also to take the lead at the top of the pecking order.
The three full points gave Bangkok United 45 points from 19 matches played – a point more than previous leaders Buriram United, who fell to a 1-0 loss to Chainat Hornbill at home.
Playing away was scant deterrent for Bangkok United as veteran striker Teerathep Winothai grabbed the opener after 21 minutes before Mika Chunuonsee then doubled the advantage with three minutes left of the first half.
Suphanburi then pulled a goal back through Rodrigo Vergilio in the 57th minute for the finals score line.
In the meantime, Buriram’s failure to make it count with the chances they had, gave the initiative to Jeera Jarernsuk to score the winner for the visitors in the 59th minute.
Port continued their climb to third in Thai League One with a 4-1 beating of Ratchaburi FC.
Sergio Suarez slammed in a double with goals in the 10th and 78th minute as Nurul Sriyankem (34th) and Dragan Boskovic (87th) nailed the others.
Ratchaburi’s only goal of the game came off Yannick Djalo, a minute to the end.
Elswhere, Thai Navy beat ten-man Bangkok Glass 1-0, Muang Thong won at home 3-1 over Air Force Central and Pattaya held scoreless by Prachuap.
Ubon were also held following a 2-2 draw by Nakhon Ratchasima as Police Tero shared points with Chiangrai United after a 1-1 stalemate.
Chonburi FC were on full away points with a 2-1 win over Sukothai.
