Following a sensational run at this season’s FIA Formula 4 Southeast Asia Championship – fuelled by Petron, several Malaysian drivers are poised to pick up honours at the Meritus Awards.

Organised by F4 SEA event promoters, Meritus.GP is an award programme that profile and reward racing talent, designed by the Formula 4 SEA promoters and the MERITUS.GP team. The event celebrates the best drivers and their outstanding performances throughout the season. The drivers will be judged on their performances in the five rounds staged in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

This year, the Meritus Award is presented by Petron – the official fuel and engine oil sponsor of F4 SEA Championship. The event marks the second successive edition of the awards ceremony which is eagerly awaited by all the drivers involved in the F4 SEA Championship.

Equally excited at the prospects of bagging more accolades this season are Malaysian drivers, Nazim Azman, Adam Khalid, Muizz Musyaffa, Mitchell Cheah, Isyraf Danish and Alister Yoong.

On the international front, Daniel Cao (China), Kane Shepherd (Thailand), Ugo D Wilde (Belgium), Sam Grimes and Ben Grimes (Philippines) are among those in contention for the top awards. The main awards that will be up for grabs are the Overall Champion and Rookie awards.

The coveted Overall Champion title comes with 12 invaluable FIA Super Licence Points. The other categories on offer are the Fastest Lap (Sepang, Buriram and Clark circuits), Best Drive, Best Overtake, Up & Coming Talent, Best Engineer and Best Mechanic awards.

“After a fantastic 2017-18 season of the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, we’ve witnessed an amazing show of driving prowess from the likes of Daniel Cao, Kane Shepherd, Nazim Azman and many others. I am very proud to say that I’m looking forward to the MAGS as it will help elevate and profile Asian racing talents while realising our goal of building a truly Asian Autosport Ecosystem” said Peter Thompson, F4 SEA promoter and CEO of Asian Autosport Action (AAA)

At the inaugural MERITUS Award Gala last year, Presley Martono from Indonesia was crowned the first-ever Overall Champion of the F4 SEA Championship.

“It brings me great pleasure and honour to announce the upcoming MERITUS Awards Gala that will celebrate the incredible feats of these young stars,” said the FIA’s Malaysian ASN affiliate, Chairman of the AAM YM Tunku Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha.

“Formula 4 is the gold standard of transitioning talented young drivers from karting to formula racing and has successfully removed the financial barrier which will allow ever more deserving drivers the opportunity to realise their dreams.”

Petron Head of Retail Pn Faridah Ali said: “The MERITUS Awards recognises the tremendous efforts of our young drivers who all gave their best in the recently concluded F4 SEA season. For two seasons now, we have been a partner of F4 as their official fuel and engine oil sponsor and once again, we congratulate them for another successful run. With the drivers’ commitment and competitive nature, we are proud to present this award in conclusion of their unforgettable F4 experience.”

The MERITUS Awards Gala will be held on June 8 at ASTRO All-Asia Broadcast Centre in Bukit Jalil.
