Malaysia secured their second point through the country's top doubles pair Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei.

It was mixed fortunes for Malaysia in the USD150,000 US Open in Fullerton, California with mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying making the final while women’s doubles hope Vivian Hoo-Chow Mei Kuan fell in the semi-finals.

Olympic silver medallists Peng Soon-Liu Ying made the final after straight games 21-16, 21-14 victory over Germans Mark Lamsfus-Isabel Herttrich in a 34-minute encounter.
 In the final the Malaysians, seeded fifth, will face another German hurdle in fourth seeds Marvin Emil Seidel-Linda Efler. The German pair downed England’s Ben Lane-Jessica Pugh 21-17, 21-8 in 31 minutes. The English were seeded seventh.
Commonwealth Games champions Vivian-Mei Kuan came unstuck in the last four on Saturday – going down to China’s Tang Jinhua-Yu Xiaohan 17-21, 20-22 after 54 minutes. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
