On a day when the Chinese and Indonesian pairs showed their might in the women’s doubles, Malaysia kept their hopes alive through Pearly Tan Koong Le-Toh Ee Wei by reaching the semi-finals in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Bintaro, Jakarta on Friday.

The Malaysians came with a 21-6, 21-18 win over Indonesia’s Metya Inayah Cindiani-Febby Valencia Dwijayanti Gani to earn a semi-final clash against another Indonesian pair Agatha Imanuela-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti who won against Koreans Jang Eun-seo-Lee Jung-hyun 21-19, 21-17.

The Malaysians are the Dutch Open champions and Malaysia’s hopes for the title in the Badminton Asia Championships.
“They are our best bet for the title,” said head coach Kwan Yoke Meng. “They have performed well so far and if they can keep their momentum the final is a possibility.”

China’s top seeds in the women’s doubles Liu Xuanxuan-Xia Yuting denied Indonesian a semi-final slot with a 21-19, 22-20, win over Indah Cahya Sari Jamil-Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

The Chinese, however, have another Indonesian pair waiting for them in the semi-finals – Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma-Ribka Sugiarto. The Indonesians shot down China’s Guo Lizhi-Li Jiying 21-13, 21-15.
