Pearly Tan Koong Le-To Ee Wei, Malaysia’s best bet for the women’s doubles title in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Bintaro, Jakarta reached the quarter-finals through the hard way on Thursday.

The Dutch Open champions came through a three-game battle before prevailing 21-10, 17-21, 21-15 in a 50-minute battle against Leung Sze Lok-Yeung Pui Lam of Hong Kong China.
 
In the quarter-finals, on Friday the Malaysians will face Indonesian seventh seeds Metya Inayah Cindian-Febby Valencia Dwijayanti Gani.
 
Malaysia’s hopes of retaining the men’s singles title won by Leong Jun Hao last year were kept alive by Ng Tze Yong after Chia Jie Wei was knocked by Indonesia’s Christian Adinata. 
 
Tze Yong downed India’s Priyanshu Rajawat 21-15, 21-14 and will face Indonesia’s hope Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay – a 21-18, 21-11 winner over Singapore’s Joel Koh Jia Wei.
 
Malaysia also has a pair in the men’s doubles in the last eight. Chang Jun Yee-Choong Hon Jian ousted Wei Chun Wei-Wu Guan Xun of Chinese Taipei in straight games 21-14, 21-14 in 344 minutes.
 
They, however, will have to overcome home favourites Ghifari Anandaffa Prihardika-Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto for a place in Saturday’s semi-finals. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
