National singles coach Datuk Misbun Sidek singled out Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s “extraordinary self-discipline” that brought the 35-year-old his 12th Malaysia Open title on Sunday.
“Chong Wei is one player who will never shirk his responsibilities and will never say no to any type of training. The only time he seeks permission to skip a training session when he is really, really tired…but this is very rare,” said Misbun.
“He is a shining example for the young to follow if they want to succeed and achieve success like him. Chong Wei fully deserves to win his twelveth Malaysian Open title.’

The former world No 1 said winning his 12th Malaysian Open title will motivate him to look at other majors – the Indonesia Open, the World Championships in Nanjing and the Asian Games in Indonesia.
“My love for my family and my country is my motivation. Without a doubt, they have been the motivating factor,” said Chong Wei, adding that he may he may not have lasted a rubber game if he had lost the second game.
Chong Wei gave away 12 years to his 23-year-old opponent who had gone a 21-match unbeaten streak before the Malaysia Open final.
Momota took the defeat sportingly and was quick to say: “With his current form I expect Chong Wei to dominate the badminton scene for the next few years despite his age. Don’t write him off.
“His (Chong Wei) net play was brilliant in the final.”
