Malaysia booked their place in the next round of the men’s football event at the Asian Games 2018 when they dumped defending champions South Korea 2-1 in the crucial game of Group E this evening.

After picking up the full points in their opening matches, both Malaysia and South Korea needed the points tonight to confirm their place in the round of 16.

And in spite of all odds, Malaysia poached two opportunistic goals through Muhammad Safawi Rasid in the fifth and 45th minute before South Korea replied off Hwang Ui Jo, three minutes to the end.

In the meantime, hosts Indonesia bounced back from their loss to Palestine to beat another ASEAN neighbour Laos 3-0 in Group A.

Veteran striker Alberto Goncalves was on target twice in the 14th and 47th minute as Ricky Saputra then added the third goal in the 75th minute.

On the other hand, Myanmnar went down 3-0 to Saudi Arabia in a Group F encounter with the latter grabbing two goals off Abdulrahman Ghareeb (15th and 59th minute) and Mutib Albanaqi (89th).

After two matches, Myanmar have picked up three points and where they have a tricky encounter against Iran coming up in two days.
