It was a long, long journey for Sabah Tennis in getting the Likas tennis courts rectified. And it has finally bore fruit with four out of the eight courts resurfaced and completed.

The resurfaced courts were “handed over” to the Sabah Tennis Association after getting the thumbs up from the Sabah Lembaga Sukan engineers and top technical officials in Likas on Tuesday.

STA president Johnson Koh and coach Shamsuddin Mustamin were at the courts during the inspection by the team from Lembaga Sukan.

Over the last few years STA, led by Johnson, went knocking on the doors of all the authorities to get the Likas tennis courts rectified.

Johnson made special mention of former Luyang assemblyman Datuk Hiew King Cheu, for allowing STA utilize his ADUN allocation of RM 200K for the courts to be resurfaced and rectified.

“STA would like to put on record our apppreciation to Datuk Hiew in helping the association as tennis has put Sabah in the forefront of the sport in the country,” said Johnson, a former national player.

Johnson added that courts will be a big boost for the coming TENNIS MALAYSIA juniors Sabah-leg in August.

STA is keeping its fingers crossed that the remaining four courts will be ready by end of September, in time for the Sabah Team Tennis Invitational Tournament which is scheduled from 5-7 October.
