Two-time champion Chen Long falls to Shi Yuqi in the semis

In an all-China men’s singles semi-finals in the World Championships in Nanjing, China, rising start Shi Yuqi knocked out two-time champion Chen Long in straight games 21-11, 21-17 on Saturday.
 
This is the second time Shi Yuqi, the reigning All England champion has beaten the reigning Olympics champion in six meetings. His first win against Chen Long was in this year’s All England.
 
The 22-year-old Shi Yuqi will be playing in his first world final and will face either Malaysia’s Daren Liew or Japan’s Kento Momota will meet in the semi-finals later tonight.
 
It will be an all-Japan women’s doubles final between last year’s silver medal winners, second seeds Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota and 11th seeds Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara.
 
Matsumoto-Nagahara upstaged fifth seed Greysia Polii-Apriyani Rahayu 21-12, 23-21 while Fukushima-Hirota knocked out compatriots and fourth seeds Shiho Tanaka-Koharu Yonemoto 21-19, 21-15.
 
The mixed doubles final will be all-China with top seeds Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong coming back from a game down to beat compatriots Zhang Nan-Li Yunhui 19-21, 21-12, 21-10.
 
Their opponents are second seeds Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping who ousted Tang Chung Man-Tse Ying Suet in a relatively easy 21-6, 21-10 victory in 31 minutes. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
