Ederson on battle vs Alisson for Brazil goalkeeper position

Brazil will jet off to Saudi Arabia later this week from their Tottenham Hotspur training base in England, a facility which also served as the team’s pre-World Cup base.

With the disappointment of their World Cup quarter-final exit behind them, Brazil will play a friendly against Saudi Arabia on 12th October before a stiffer test against Argentina on 16th October.

Goalkeeper Ederson faced the media on Tuesday, where he revealed that head coach Tite had given him the nod to start the game against the Saudi national side.

It will be his second appearance for Brazil after making his debut in a 3-0 over Chile in World Cup qualifying last year.

Ederson admitted that Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper Alisson – who Tite has chosen to start against Argentina – was still “one step ahead of me”.

“I believe there are lots of similarities between us. He went to Liverpool and has had a very positive beginning of the season. I think that here, at the national team, he is one step ahead of me because he has played more games, played at the World Cup. But that’s no excuse for me to stop working and dedicate myself daily. Whoever Tite (Brazil head coach) chooses will deliver. I think that Brazil is very well served with goalkeepers. We have lots of very good goalkeepers who haven’t had the chance to play for the national team. But I think we are very well represented.” – Ederson, Brazil goalkeeper
