Six thousand runners took to the streets in Putrajaya as the  Allianz Pacer Run made an exciting return today.

This year, the race returned to its original venue at Precinct 3 in Putrajaya. The race format was also revamped as the 12KM and 6KM Fun Run races were replaced with new distances -16KM and 8KM Fun Run respectively. Besides that, the participating entries were also increased for the first time to 6,000 entries from the 5,000 entries allocated in previous years.

“The whole idea behind the Allianz Pacer Run was to get Malaysians interested in running. As our major standalone running event, I am very proud to see how the run has continued to encourage Malaysians from all walks of life to get active and to start leading a healthier lifestyle. To us, it is not just about organising a quality run every year. It is equally important that we are able to inspire, challenge and allow Malaysians to come together on a nice Sunday morning and just have a ton of fun,” said Zakri Khir, Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Malaysia Berhad.

“This year, we wanted runners to push further. After three years, we thought this was the right time for the Allianz Pacer Run to present a new challenge to the runners and help them progress closer to the half marathon mark of 21 KM. As the fourth installment, we wanted to up the ante a little, so we stretched the running distances to 16KM and 8KM respectively and also opened up 1,000 more participation spots for the runners,” added Zakri.

In fact, this year’s participants also featured close to 2,000 Allianz customers as well as over 400 Allianz employees including Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer Joseph Gross.

The race festivities were kicked off with a fun Zumba warm-up session for the participants. The 16KM race for the Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Veteran and Women’s Veteran categories were flagged-off in front of the Palace of Justice at 6.30am. This was followed by the flag-off of the 8KM Fun Run category at 7am.

Following the run, the participants were able to enjoy the festivities at the Allianz Runners Village. At the village, participants took part in fun games involving an inflatable obstacle course and more. Besides that, the runners village also featured interactive booths which focused on health education, healthy living and nutrition by IJN, Pfizer, Caring Pharmacy, Nestle and Dietchain.
