Vietnam may have won two matches but Myanmar’s superior firepower has led to some concerns to the team’s head coach, Park Hang Seo. In their first two Group A matches, against Laos and Cambodia, Myanmar have netted a total of seven goals.

“Away matches are always not easy, and that’s the case with Myanmar. They have good attacking capabilities, scoring seven goals in two matches,” said Hong Seo, who was the coach that led Vietnam to their first-ever Asian Games semi-finals. Although Vietnam are ahead of their opponents in the head-to-head stats, the South Korean coach acknowledged Myanmar’s fighting spirit.

“In their last match, they conceded first but they came back strong,” said Song Heo, who went to add that the Myanmar players were very focussed and that helped them do well in the last two games.

Myanmar coach Antoine Hey says the team has but one target. “We are physically, mentally ready, we also have no injuries but have one suspended player. This is going to be an interesting match between two strong teams in front of a full stadium. I can’t wait for this game,” Hey commented.

With such high expectations from the home fans, Hey said he would like to see the team finish well tomorrow. “We are in the process of getting things right, as a coach, it’s my job to identify the mistakes and work on them. We have done our homework and ready for the match. I hope for good results so we can celebrate with the fans tomorrow.”

Myanmar, group leaders by virtue of a better goal difference, and Vietnam have six points each. A victory for either team will go long way in making the cut. Malaysia are third in the standings with six points as well.

Should Myanmar win, they will have an edge going into the last match against Malaysia.
