Rio Olympics silver medallists Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying were bundled out in the second round in the USD700,000 Fuzhou China Open by Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan-Melati Daeva Oktavianti on Thursday.

The Malaysians who beat India’ Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Ashwini Ponnappa in the first round went out tamely in straight games 17-21, 15-21 in 37 minutes.

There was also no joy for Malaysia in the men’s doubles when Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong failed to make the quarter-finals after a marathon 85-minute match before bowing out to China’s third seeds Liu Chng-Zhang Nan who won 21-19, 20-22, 21-15.

Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles also came to an abrupt at the Haixia Olympic Sports Center in Fuzhou when privateer Liew Daren lost his second round match to Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei.

The fourth-seeded Tien-chen won his match 21-15, 21-19 in 40 minutes.  RIZAL ABDULLAH
