Malaysia are assured of a place in the men’s doubles final after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (main pix) smoked out fourth seeds Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark 21-17, 21-19 in a pulsating 34 minutes quarter-final match at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Friday.

They will meet compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi for place in the final. Yew Sin-Ee Yi had earlier dumped Japan’s second seeds Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda 21-19, 21-16 in another thriller that went 39 minutes.

It could be an all-Malaysia final if former World No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong can continue with their current impressive run and beat top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo in the second semi-final.

V Shem-Wee Kiong ousted Japanese third seeds Hiroyuki Endo-Yuta Watanabe 22-20, 21-15 in 36 minutes while the crack Indonesia pair were taken the full distance before prevailing 21-13, 23-25, 21-14 against Japan’s seventh seeds Takuto Inoque-Yuki Kaneko.
