Malaysia will have three men’s doubles pairs in the quarter-finals on Friday in the USD350,000 Perodua Malaysia Masters at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

It was Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik (main pix) who stole the show with a splendid performance to dump defending champions and fifth seeds Fajar Alfian-Muhamad Rian Ardianto -sending the Indonesians crashing to a 26-24, 21-15 defeat in a 37-minute second round match.

The Malaysians, ranked 23, will now gun for another seeded scalp when they face fourth seeds Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen. The Danes denied an all-Malaysia quarter-final with a 21-13, 21-14 win over Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen.

With the home fans rooting for them Aaron-Wooi Yik could once again turn the tables against the hard hitting Danes, having beaten them in World Championships in Nanjing, China last August.

Former world No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, fresh from winning last week’s Thailand Masters also turned in a superb performance to bundle out another Indonesian pair, sixth seeds Mohamad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan with 21-19, 24-22 win in 32 minutes.

For a place in the last four  V Shem-Wee Kiong will face Japan’s Hiroyuki Endo-Yuta Watanabe. The third seeds added more misery to Indonesia’s run in the men’s doubles by knocking out Berry Angriawan-Hardianto Hardianto 21-16, 21-15.

Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi rounded-up a delightful night for Malaysia in the men’s doubles with a 21-13, 14-21, 21-10 win over Denmark’s David Dougaard-Frederik Sogaard. They next play Japanese second seeds Takeshi Komura-Keigo Sonoda. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
