Pemain pertahanan Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Shazrul Imran Nazli tidak dapat beraksi sepanjang saingan Liga Hoki Malaysia 2019 selepas berdepan kecederaan serius pada tumit kaki kirinya.

Pemain berusia 26 tahun itu disahkan mengalami kecederaan Achilles kiri selepas menjalani ujian perubatan bersama Doktor Perunding Sukan Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM), Prof Dr Muhammad Shariff A. Hamid semalam.

INJURY RULES UNIKL’S SHAZRUL OUT FOR SIX MONTHS

Kuala Lumpur (8 January, 2019): Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) defender Shazrul Imran Nazli has been ruled out of the 2019 Malaysian Hockey League season following a serious injury to his left heel.

The 26-year-old has been certified by University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) consultant sports physician Associate Prof Dr Muhammad Shariff A. Hamid to have suffered a complete rupture of left Achilles following a medical examination yesterday.

Shazrul suffered the injury during a warm-up session for the Tan Sri P. Alagendra Cup quarterfinals clash against TNB Thunderbolts last Thursday at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

“The physician has confirmed the extent of Shazrul’s injury and as it looks he needs to undergo surgery,” said UniKL head coach Arul Selvaraj.

“According to the physician following surgery Shazrul will require active physiotherapy and rehabilitation to ensure adequate and optimal recovery that is expected between six months to one year,” added Arul.

“UniKL have registered 14 local and six foreign players in the league. Following Shazrul’s genuine injury, we will replace him with another player to make up the numbers. I will discuss with the team management of the options we have in mind and also with MHC tournament director,” said Arul during the team’s training session at the Tengku Abdullah Stadium in Bangi.

Shazrul, who has been a key player in UniKL since 2011, was at the stadium watching teammates training for the MHL curtain raiser Charity Shield tie against Terengganu Hockey Team on January 11 at the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.

“I am deeply shattered. That is how I feel right now. The doctor has advised surgery and I have been told that it will take about 6 months to a year for full recovery,” said a disillusioned Shazrul.

“I was looking forward to the MHL season. I wish my teammates play their best in the league,.” he added.

This is the second time in his hockey-playing career that Shazrul suffered serious injury. The last time was during the 2013 World Cup qualification friendly match against South Korea at the National Hockey Stadium when the ball struck his right knee that resulted in a hairline fracture.
