World badminton stars are in action in the first song made for the charity foundation Solibad, Badminton without Borders. The main video and the teaser video feature the world’s top shuttlers such as Lee Chong Wei, Tai Tzu Ying, Peter Gade, Pusarla VenkataSindhu, and many others.
The song was created with unique musical instruments and sounds made using badminton equipment.
Unique musique, special guests and “bass’minton”
This video clip comes together with a song which was created by Austrian band Louie’s Cage Percussion, a group of talented percussionists most of whom also play in Vienna’s best symphonic and opera orchestras. They got together in their free time to support the foundation and created a melody and rhythm which matches Solibad’s joyful spirit,.
The group came to Paris to record the song in the fall of 2017 during the Internationaux de France, with players coming to join the action.
What makes this song special is that it was created with sounds made using badminton items – shuttlecocks, rackets, and even a unique instrument – a badminton racket that was  turned into a bass guitar thanks to the engineering of one talented member of Louie’s Cage Percussion, Roman Hansi.
Players such as Huang Yaqiong, Pusarla Venkata Sindhu or Greysia Polii got to play with this unique “Bass’minton” while other stars such as Srikanth Kidambi, Pi Hongyan and others were creating the background rhythm with a badminton tube filled with rice.
Some other badminton stars were involved in the video teaser of the song as they had to come up with spontaneous ideas on words starting with “So” and reflecting Solibad’s actions. If most shuttlers came up with simple but efficient ideas – Soniia Cheah’s “So Caring”, Tai Tzu Ying’s “So… nice” or Taufik Hidayat’s “So.. good” – in a dancing mode -, others were more creative as Michelle Li or Busanan Ongbamrungphan.
This song and video clips are meant to promote Solibad’s work in 2019 – the year which will see the celebration of 10 years of action from the charity foundation, whose 10th anniversary will be celebrated in style on December 10th2019.
The other purpose of this song is to raise funds through badminton fans around the world in order to keep Solibad’s programs running in 2019.
“This was a crazy idea that we came up with – to create a song together with Louie’s Cage Percussion using badminton items but they took the challenge and did some amazing work to come up with a joyful rhythm and song, which will hopefully raise awareness for our programs around the world,
said Raphael Sachetat, president of Solibad
“It was the first time that our group was involved in such a project and we were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere around the badminton community – top stars are very accessible amongst players and it was great to work with them and we had lot of fun! ” said Lucas Salaun, a member of Louie’s Cage Percussion.
“We were happy to give our time and creativity for such a good cause and we’ll definitely use this song in our concerts to come in Wien and around to promote Solibad’s programs and hopefully raise some funds” added their manager Keiko Kuwahara.
The music is available in an MP3 version, that can be used free of rights for all non-commercial badminton events around the world.
