A Spanish firm is being considered to be the lead broadcaster of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, which will be hosted by the country this year.

Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing committee (Philsgoc) executive director Ramon Suzara said before local media that Games organizers are in talks with a broadcasting firm from Spain for the airing rights of the Games.

Announcement of the company’s name is being deferred until an official deal has been struck.

“Hopefully we’ll announce it pretty soon once we sign the agreement with them. We are just trying to finish the nitty-gritty details,” said Suzara during the official kick off of the one-year countdown of the 10th ASEAN Para Games.

“There will also be 3 to 4 domestic stations to be given coverage rights. All are welcome to cover, especially the opening and closing ceremonies and sports competitions.”

When asked why a foreign company has been tapped for broadcast duties, Suzara said the hope is to raise the level of coverage for the Games.

“We raised the level of the SEA Games in all areas . . . We are getting an international company for broadcast which will also benefit our local TV stations,” he said.

“One local TV station cannot support 56 sports so kailangan talaga tulong tulong talaga lahat ng TV networks and this will be good, magtulung tulungan tayo lahat.” ABS-CBN
